Manufacturing Service
Many
customers benefit greatly from using coated tooling in their manufacturing
processes, but find it inconvenient and complicated to meet all the surface
finish, material selection and heat treatment criteria to make a real
performance tool. For this reason TD Coating Centre offers a complete manufacturing service to its customers.
No longer do you need to get a part made only to find out that the material is not suitable or have the process delayed due to shipping it off to coating and then worrying about whether the surface finish is good enough to coat. We can do it all for you with one point of call.
Specialising mostly in small, precision ground tools and components
the company
boasts
a wide flexibility of capabilities with excellent quality and consistency.
Any type of application can be considered:
•
mining and mining components,
•metal forming dies,
punches, extrusion punches and parts
•
tube forming
• wire forming
• cutters and
blades
See our gallery of parts for some examples of the wide range of items
we have made.
Using specific international partners for the manufacture of tooling,
TD Coating Centre specifies all base material, heat treatment and surface
finish requirements. We complete the process by pre-polishing and applying
the appropriate coatings as a final step before shipping finished tooling
to customers.
Materials available range from conventional Japanese made hot and cold
work tool steels to a range of Erasteel high speed steels including
conventional and state of the art, powder metallurgical high speed steels.
All heat treatment is done by vacuum and specified by TD Coating Centre
for optimum part performance and coating compatibility.
Better tools through proper engineering
With all the advantages of advanced materials and superior coatings TD Coating centre produces tooling that offers better performance and far greater economy, with the convenience of a single supplier. Tell us about what your specific wear problem is and we can build the right solution for you.Another strong advantage is our ability to do small quantity manufacturing from one off, if required, whilst still maintaining good economy.

Standard Products
For
piercing punches, dies, pilot pins, ejectors etc, check out our FANG
range of products. If you don’t see your item there, no problem
... send us your specific request and we will custom make the item
for you.
Carbide Tooling
Some applications require the extreme hardness throughout the base material
of tungsten carbide. Using a specialist international supplier of Tungsten
Carbide tooling, TD Coating Centre completes its offering of high performance
manufactured tooling. With lead times as short as 3-4 weeks, custom
tungsten carbide tooling can be provided and
even
these tools can display further benefit with additional coating with
either TiN, NANO or even TD coating on top of the carbide base.
Retro Engineering
Don’t have a drawing? Our product development engineer
is able to retro engineer products from samples that are within our
capability to manufacture. We deliver components that outlast the original
as we can use better materials better surface finishes and have the
advantages of coatings on our side.
Additional Services
Polishing
Thin film coatings perform due their remarkable harnesses, chemical
make-up and their surface finish prior to coating. For this reason pre-polishing
is a common step before coating. All polishing is performed by hand
by experienced staff and it is usual to polish working areas up to a
mirror finish.
Yes, it is really required on most hard wearing applications. The rule
of thumb is that the higher the surface pressure the more critical the
surface finish, where even grinding marks and stoning lines can create
initiation points for pick-up, and scoring to occur, not to mention
breakage.
Vacuum
Hardening Vacuum hardening of the steel after TD coating is sometimes required to maximise base steel hardness and deliver additional performance to TD coated tooling in certain applications. TD Coating Centre uses only vacuum hardening to protect the coating during the re-hardening cycle
Material Analysis
Before coating can begin the material type of the steel must
be known. Knowing material types is key to understanding both performance,
failures and coating suitability. For these reasons TD Coating Centre
is able to have material types analysis performed on steels to determine
their composition. If the customer is at all in doubt about the tool
steel, or if the incoming hardness is way out of specification, this
additional step is highly advised.
This service is charged for but it is better to pay to know BEFORE we
damage the microstructure of an unknown steel.
Advice
Advice is free and offered on all coatings, steels and heat treatments
that effect to performance of tooling. We have seen a lot of problems
in our time and are always willing to help solve your wear related problems
in the quest for performance tooling.
